چکیده

We argue that isotropization and, consequently, thermalization of the system of gluons and quarks produced in an ultrarelativistic heavy ion collision does not follow from Feynman diagram analysis to any order in the coupling constant. We conclude that the apparent thermalization of quarks and gluons, leading to success of perfect fluid hydrodynamics in describing heavy ion collisions at RHIC, can only be attributed to the non-perturbative QCD effects not captured by Feynman diagrams. We proceed by modeling these non-pertrubative thermalization effects using viscous hydrodynamics. We point out that matching Color Glass Condensate inital conditions with viscous hydrodynamics leads to continuous evolution of all components of energy-momentum tensor and, unlike the case of ideal hydrodynamics, does not give a discontinuity in the longitudinal pressure. An important consequence of such a matching is a relationship between the thermalization time and shear viscosity: we observe that small viscosity leads to short thermalization time.

Pressure Isotropization in Heavy Ion Collisions from Color Glass Condensate

It is well known that the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in heavy ion collisions can be successfully described by hydrodynamics; successful hydrodynamics requires rapid thermalization with the thermalization time τ0 less than 1 fm/c [1]. Studying the dynamical processes before the formation of the QGP can provide initial conditions for the hydrodynamic simulations. During the hydrodynamic ev...

Quantum Thermalization in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions

Based on common consideration of hydrodynamics as effective theory in domain of slow and long-length modes, we discuss the physical mechanisms responsible for the decoherence and emergence of the hydrodynamic behavior in relativistic heavy ion collisions, and demonstrate how such physical mechanisms work in the case of the scalar field model. We obtain the evolution equation for the Wigner func...

Collision Thermalization of Nucleons in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions

We consider a possible mechanism of thermalization of nucleons in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Our model belongs, to a certain degree, to the transport ones; we investigate the evolution of the system created in nucleus-nucleus collision, but we parametrize this development by the number of collisions of every particle during evolution rather than by the time variable. We based on the ass...

Anisotropic fluid dynamics in the early stage of relativistic heavy - ion collisions ⋆

A formalism for anisotropic fluid dynamics is proposed. It is designed to describe boost-invariant systems with anisotropic pressure. Such systems are expected to be produced at the early stages of relativistic heavy-ion collisions, when the timescales are too short to achieve equal thermalization of transverse and longitudinal degrees of freedom. The approach is based on the energy-momentum an...

The role of the gluonic gg ↔ ggg interactions in early thermalization in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions

We “quantify” the role of elastic as well as inelastic gg ↔ ggg pQCD processes in kinetic equilibration within a pQCD inspired parton cascade. The contributions of different processes to kinetic equilibration are manifested by the transport collision rates. We find that in a central Au+Au collision at RHIC energy pQCD Bremstrahlung processes are much more efficient for momentum isotropization c...
